This past week, I visited Mahanay Elementary School, and it was invigorating to see the team working together, reviewing student data, and making plans to meet student needs. Mrs. Sun, a third-grade teacher there, had more than 80% of her students pass the last interim assessment in science. I had to stop by and witness her magic. As she moved around the room, even I could not help but be engaged as she led the students through their science lesson. Step-by-step guidance, clear expectations, monitoring, and a hands-on learning opportunity helped our students succeed. Thanks, Mrs. Sun, for teaching here at Alief ISD and making science come alive for our students.
Mr. Steward Bailey, a phenomenal teacher at Elsik High School, and Mrs. Jennifer Baker, Director of Career and Technical Education and Alief Career Center principal, moved my heart last week as I participated in the celebration of our students' culminating work. Folks, our Alief students built and sold a plane! While Mr. Bailey and I have not taken this one for a spin, I am confident our students did a fantastic job!
Our Portrait of an Alief ISD Graduate shares competencies that we want all of our students to leave Alief ISD having mastered. The second competency is Growth Mindset. As we celebrate Alief Early High School and Alief Kerr High School being #1 and #2 in Texas, I know the dynamic teaching and leadership team embraces the idea of continuous improvement and a growth mindset. Their work to ensure that all students believe they can do anything has led to Alief student's success. Congratulations to both campuses!
