According to Rand Education and Labor's study, teachers matter more to student achievement than anything else. Last week, I visited Hastings High School. I visited with math instructor Kala Gopalakrishnan, and her enthusiasm for teaching was infectious. She shared that she has been in Alief for more than 20 years. She was proud to share her recently earned fellowship opportunity with the University of Houston. She will be a part of the Teach Houston STEM Program to develop teacher leaders. Mrs. G was excited about collaborating and sharing everything she learns with her colleagues throughout Alief ISD. I am excited about visiting her class again and observing her students working on their Financial Planning project.
I also recently honored Keri Reynolds of Kerr High School as a Superintendent MVP. She is a Nationally Board-Certified instructor recognized as an unsung hero by the Lowell Milken Center. Her talents could take her anywhere, but we are happy she chose Alief ISD to support student success in the fine arts! I enjoy having the opportunity to observe our teachers in action! Thank you to our educators working daily to help our students achieve their fullest potential!
