DR. MAYS’ WEEK AHEAD An Update from Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays

I am excited to announce that Alief Early College and Alief Kerr High School have been ranked the #1 and #2 standout high schools in Texas by Niche rankings! Congratulations to the parents, students, and all our educators who have poured into our students to help them succeed.

This is a testament to the work Alief ISD educators do every day. Congratulations to Kerr Principal Sarah Tones and Alief Early Principal Matthew Skiles. The work is impressive, with 70-80% of the students we serve facing economic challenges, yet our students are thriving despite the difficulties.

I am proud of our students, teachers, and administrators for representing Alief ISD on a state level! Our goal is for every school in Alief ISD to shine as we meet our students' needs and serve them well in each classroom.

Alief ISD MVP 2025-2026 Awards Nomination Form

Each month, one student, two teachers, and two support staff will be selected as an MVP Award winner by their peers.

These winners are chosen based on evidence of their support of customer service and positive climate and culture in Alief ISD, and they will be celebrated during our next regular board meeting.

We encourage our stakeholders to submit the MVP Award Submission by October 31st, 2025.

Our campuses came alive with joy as students and staff celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring culture, pride, and community—the heart of what makes Alief ISD so special.

We’re proud to share that Tamara Albury, Principal of The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS), was recently featured in Voyage Houston. In her story, Principal Albury reflects on her leadership journey, passion for empowering young women, and dedication to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. We're thrilled to share that Kerr High School student Lisa Le was selected as the 1st place winner in the Vietnamese Cultural Festival Art Contest for her pencil drawing entitled "Remembrance". She also received a $400 cash award for her drawing.

International Management District – Community Grants

We encourage staff to explore the International Management District’s Community Grants, designed to support innovative projects that enhance learning and community engagement. By diversifying applicants, we aim to ensure teachers have the opportunity to access these valuable funds for new initiatives that directly benefit students.
