Last week, during campus visits to Elsik High School, it was exciting to see students hard at work from bell to bell. Our teachers engaged them at every moment with thoughtful questions in English courses as they read and made notes on a text about civil rights. I imagine these lessons are timely, given the upcoming November elections. Principal Aleem and I walked past one class I was compelled to visit. The energy from the class spilled out into the hallway as Mrs. Hasan, an Algebra teacher with a 98% passing rate, engaged her students. Her instruction was captivating and pulled me and the students into the lesson as she checked for the understanding of 100% of the students! Mrs. Hasan and Mrs. Donald from Elsik High created environments for our students to thrive!
As the football season unfolds and our students compete. I am reminded of the challenges they will face when they leave us. They will head into a world where they compete with other young thinkers who are poised and prepared to solve tomorrow's problems. Everything that we do today with our students, by allowing them to read and think through challenging texts or practice challenging computations, better prepares them to succeed.
Thank you to our teachers who provide rigorous learning opportunities to our students daily!
