In each edition of the TIA Tuesdays newsletter, we will shine a light on a TIA designated teacher in Alief ISD. This special section will provide an opportunity for designated teachers to share their unique experiences with TIA.
Meet Ms. Julie Ryan! – Theatre Arts Teacher at Kerr High School
Ms. Julie Ryan is a passionate and visionary educator with 24 years of teaching experience, all within Alief ISD. As the Theatre Arts Director at Kerr High School, a TIA-recognized teacher, and a National Board Certified educator, she has built a classroom culture where student leadership takes center stage—literally and figuratively.
Ms. Ryan’s passion for teaching is rooted in her love for Alief’s diverse student population. “Our kids are so ready to learn,” she shares. “They’re incredible leaders who will one day change the world.” Her classroom is a place where students take the lead—directing shows, managing crews, guiding lessons, and supporting one another with positivity and purpose.
She believes that empowering students to lead is the key to unlocking their full potential. Her advice to fellow educators:
“Let go of control. Trust your students—even the ones who struggle the most. When we allow mistakes and give students space to lead, we discover how they truly learn.”
Ms. Ryan’s work is a testament to the power of trust, creativity, and student voice. We’re grateful to have her inspiring leadership in Alief ISD!

The frequently asked questions section has been moved to our Alief ISD TIA website to provide the most up-to-date answers to frequently asked TIA questions.
The handbook has been updated to version 1.2. Please ensure you are viewing the latest version, as denoted on the top right-hand corner of the first page.
NOTE: The designations that will be awarded during the 25-26 school year will be based on the policies in the 24-25 school year TIA Handbook.
An overview of the TIA system in Alief ISD is provided in the training presentation below. All teachers are expected to review the information. The presentation includes the TIA timeline and a list of changes for the 25-26 school year. There is an audio button on each slide to learn more.
A link to the video recording of the training can be found here. Captions and a language translation feature are available.
We’re moving full speed ahead! TIA scores from the 2024–2025 data collection year are currently being calculated, and we’re working as quickly and efficiently as possible to get them finalized. These scores are crucial in determining which teachers qualify for TIA designations, which will be submitted to TEA by mid-October for approval.
We’re excited to share that teachers will receive their individual TIA scorecards in early October! These scorecards are designed to help educators reflect on their performance and identify key areas for professional development.
Please note: while the scorecards will show performance scores, they will not indicate whether a teacher has met the criteria for a TIA designation. That information will be shared in February once we get the green light from TEA.
We appreciate your commitment to growth and excellence—your hard work is what makes Alief shine!
New and returning TIA-designated teachers who complete a creditable year of service during the 2025–2026 school year will receive their TIA bonus on the last paycheck in August 2026.
This adjustment from the previous May payout is part of Alief ISD’s strategic effort to retain our most effective teachers and ensure continued support for student achievement.
To be eligible for the bonus, teachers must be returning to Alief ISD for the 2026–2027 school year, with the exception of those teachers who are retiring.
Thank you for your dedication to our students and for being a vital part of our mission to help every child reach their full potential!
